I have a 1985 Four Winns 170 Horizon bow rider with the Mercruiser 3.0 I/O 140. Had the boat on the lake twice this season since I cleaned and fixed the interior and I have noticed two problems I would like your advice on. Problem 1 is the steering. The boat is very easy to steer left and hard to steer right but easy to steer left so I figure I would replace the steering cable. I think I can figure it out because I'm a mechanic (all be it not a boat mechanic) but I'm not sure where to get the cable or how to know I'm getting the right thing. Problem two is the shifting. The boat shifts into to foward great and into reverse with no problems. It seems though when I put it in what should be neutral the boat still wants to go forward. I'm confused as to whether something is wrong with the adjustment and I need to adjust the linkage to make my neutral zone bigger or is it just the exhaust pushing the boat. (I have the motor timed up a little so it idles smoother.) And one more question where could I find the size of my gas tank. When i fill it past 10 gallons it seems to like to spit gas back up if i pump very fast. Is this just normal or do I have a problem, or is my gas tank just tiny. Any help would be amazing guys.
Thanks,
Trent
