Two questions re: my new/old boat

I first signed on to iboats two years ago and read and asked some questions about buying a boat. At that time I found the people here to be very helpful and willing to share their knowledge. Well I recently bought my first boat. It is a 1985 Alumacraft 16 ft. MV Angler with a 40 hp Evinrude. I know I will have many questions in the days to come, but I?m starting out with two. The first: when the boat is in storage, or anytime it?s not in the water, should I keep the motor ?up or down?. It has no hydraulic tilt/trim so I have been keeping it in the ?up? or locked position. Second question: I need to replace the kill switch lanyard. I bought one at Bass Pro Shops that has several different ends or clips but they give no instructions on the replacement. I (gently) tried pulling the clip out but it did not slide out. Looking for some help. Thanks in advance for any assistance or guidance!

The only reason to tilt the motor up is for clearance or to get access to something. Storing it down is fine, probably preferred. When it's down, the fluids in the motor are where they need to be when running. I can't help with the kill switch lanyard. If you don't get an answer here, perhaps someone where you bought it can help. Good luck.

Thanks very much for the advise Krichbourg, I appreciate it. Hopefully I'll hear about the kill switch.
