Two Questions

1. I bought a Javelin 366 fs boat recently. It has a Evinrude 90hp VRO V4 motor. It is oil injected (separate tanks for gas and oil). This is my first boat. Why kind of oil do I run in it?

2. This boat has two batteries, I have not checked all the wiring yet, but I am going to. Anyway, does anyone know do you need to charge these batteries after every use or will they recharge while running the boat?

1. I don't have any 2-stroke outboards, however I do have couple of 2-stroke dirt bikes. My personal preference when it comes to 2-stroke oil is Amsoil, Mobil 1, or Castrol. I am not sure if there is a difference for Marine 2-Stroke oil or not but those 3 brands have never let me down.

2. Most outboards have a stator. That being said they do charge the batteries a little bit, however when the boat is out of the water it wouldn't hurt to install a maintenance charger, which will keep the voltage above a certain level, shut off when batteries are charged, when the voltage falls below a certain point will turn back on and recharge the batteries. I would suggest one of those anyway as you'll tend to get more life out of your batteries than just leaving them to be maintained by the stator and hope that it will stay charged to the next trip.

Use ONLY oil that is designated as 'TC-W3', Outboard, 2 cylle. Several Companies make it. Just be sure it is TC-W3.
