Manager talked to me last night and really wants me stay. Says, "Take February off and then let me know if you want to come back." I told the manager that February off will just tease me and not get me used to "retirement." I didn't slam the door in the manager's face, but I did say, "Don't count on me coming back. But thanks for the offer."

I've been very careful in this entire process to keep my bridges "fire free". Maybe comeback in 6 months?

Yes. It would be paid vacation from my banked and current (2008) vacation days. Using all vacation days, I will remain on the payroll thru March and receive health benefits etc till then. I'll get the vacation days regardless of my reply because I gave notice more than 7 days of termination.. I gave a 30 day notice.

Manager is not in position to give raises or anything else. That is above her "power." The "powers that be" have not talked to me. That in itself speaks volumes.

It sounds to me like you have made your mind up.....
But you might feel differently after a month off.......
It would not hurt to do a 'trial run' & then make a final decision....:)

just a thought, have you considered a "on call" position with the company, as a fill in for sick days, or vacation?

I would suggest keeping the door open to coming back as a "consultant" . I know several people that have terminated employment where I work, and are still working there in this capacity, at more money, and far better working conditions.

Yes, I may do a fill in at stores other than the one I have worked at. My own pick on when I would want to work.

Or you could just retire, right? I mean that is what you set out to do, right? I mean you were the one that put in the notice, right? So why get bitter that they will let you do what you asked to do?

Or were you mad that your boss wanted to try to keep you?

I guess I don't understand where all this animosity is comming from.

I agree. Why quit if you are not really ready to retire. It sounds like you like your job, so why quit anyway. Why don't you try going part time for a while?

Whoa, whoa. No animosity here on my part. Management just can't conceive that I am leaving with only 3.5 years to go to actually retire. They think they "own" each and every employee that stays more than 3 years with them. I've been a pharmacist for 31 years ( not all years with this employer) and that's long enough. I'm done.

I AM READY TO RETIRE!!!!!! MANAGEMENT JUST DOESN'T BELEIVE ME.
I'll need three months totally off to actually know if I even want to put in any part time hours. I'm more than ready to sit home, travel, fish, play with grandkids, etc. and reap the rewards of many years of labor.
