I have a 1952 Elgin 7.5 HP with a neutral shift lower unit. My recollection as a kid is that we used grease rather than 90 weight oil in the lower unit.

What lube do I use and where can I get it?

Hopefully some of the older geezer guys on here can help you with that antique motor question. All I've ever used was the 90 weight gear oil. Good Luck!

Yer right, outboard motor lower unit grease it is/was. The stuff is no longer made, so most people use Lubriplate 105 "Motor Assembly Grease" Comes in a squeeze tube. NAPA Auto Parts has it.

Thanks a bunch. I'll hit the NAPA store in the morning.

Ahhhh, the ole Lubriplate. I can still smell it on my hands from the mid 60's.
