I don't know where they are in this country, but Marathon Gas does not add alcohol additives to there formula, Shell form what I was told is also very similar.

The reason why alcohol is o.k. for automotive use, is that most cars consume the fuel within sufficient time before the alcohol and other moistures seperate from each other within the fuel. Once this occurs, it become corrosive to internal engine parts.

You can't assume there is no down side (other than cost)to using premium fuel in a motor that doesn't need it. SAE studies have demonstrated that automotive engines using 93 octane fuels with their additional additives have resulted in more deposits than the 87 octane for which the engine was designed.

ChalkBoy, I thought the same thing about Amoco, but it's not necessarily true. Their regular policy doesn't apply in a metro that mandates additives. Marathon stations around Mpls have gasahol as well....

Re: Type of gasoline?

ok guys there is a simple test to determine if there is alcohol is your gas . fill a small glass 1/4 way with water mark the top of the water line with tape. fill the rest of the way with gas .shake and let it settle if there is alcohol the water line will be higher than the tape . why? alcohol and water mix better than alcohol and gas. hope this helps
Rick
