manually throttling up & down at the engine when not running (I'm trying to check the butterfly settings in carbs). I've disconnected the throttle from the cable going to the driver seat control. Moving the throttle assembly by hand is very difficult - I have to push/pull hard to open/close the throttle. I have even unhooked the linkage to the carb and it is very stiff to move the distributor. I'm thinking that maybe there needs new grease in the nipple on the distributor? You can see the fitting on the left side of this photo: Does this fitting need greased often & with what kind of grease?

Should be smooth as silk, slight resistance, greasing sure to help us marine approved, water resistant brand pick up at many auto supply houses or marine supply

OK, thanks. The tower shaft is so hard to pivot. Are there other pivot points on the tower shaft that gum up?

Just a little amount of grease at the two plastic holdings of the tower shaft and maybe a little at bottom of the shaft too.
This suppose to fix the shaft.

The soft metal corrodes and expands.
Clean the holes with sandpaper and then marine grease.
I spray the pivot points with a spray white lithium.
WD-40 or any lube will help.

Like Bondo says "any grease is better than no grease"
