1976 viking Deckboat with OMC 175 (ford 302 v8) and stringer outdrive w/rubber boot at transom.
Since teh outdrive does not physically connect to the transom, and all the load is directed towards the stringers, typically how thick would this transom be?

Re: Typical trasnom Thickness

I am not sure on a OMC but I would think it was the same but Mercruiser says 2- 2 1/4" total thickness of hull and transom. I would almost think that would be the same for OMC . I can't see boat manufactures building different thickness of transoms depend on engine brand.

You need this thickness for the outdrive shaft and engine to align properly.

I bet if you call a a old OMC dealer they would know the spec for sure on OMC.

from a few of the omc stringer setups i've looked at, it appears most fo the transoms that are only setup for an OMC stringer interface, only have transom thicknesses of about 1"....since the engine and outdrive are directly mounted to each other and the stringers of the boat (and not bolted to the transom) i couldn't really see a reason to make the transom much thicker

You should be able to get quick and accurate answer over in the I/O section.

You are still looking at a min of 1 -1/2 " of wood plus the fiberglass for required structural support.
