i use tywraps all the time. They are very strong, never rust or corode, are very easy to install and uninstall, and are easy to keep on hand.

I was wondering the same thing last week. I'm looking for an air leak in my fuel system. One of the things I did was replace the tie wraps and snap together hose clamps (that were snapped together all the way but could turn on hoses)with SS hose clamps like you'd see on your old Buick :D

Like anything else, there's good ones not so good ones and lastly "made in china". The last ones I bought won't latch properly. Got a heck of a deal on them, but had to throw them away and buy more....

Re: tywraps as hose clamps?

Keep in mind guys, that there are 2 distinctly different styles of ty-straps. The ones the manufacturers use on fuel hoses have a "rounded" back to provide secure clamping force around the circumference of the hose. You should never use a "flat-backed" electrical ty-strap on a fuel hose application. The flat straps can pinch the hose and cause an air leak.

The reason for not using worm-drive style metal clamps is that they can be over-tightened, which destroys the hose and they can work loose.

A securely attached ty-strap may be able to turn on the fitting it's attached to, but that is really no big deal. A properly attached hose-style ty-strap will not leak - if the installer does manage to over-tighten a ty-strap, it breaks then & there.

Hope this info helps...

-John
