Re: U - G - L - Y Ford Super Duty!

Ford has always made a decent truck..... but I would not buy one based on looks..... Who cares if a work truck looks ugly anyway.....

I'm with ya on that Bob. I like the looks of the new super duties though. I look for a truck just like I look for a woman, looks are not all that important to me :D, no seriously though looks are not that important.

The other day when helping my father install a new motor into his 91 Chevy 2500, we had a visitor show up and the first thing he said was "if that was a ford you wouldn't half to worry about that". Guess what the visitor was driving? He was driving an early 90's model Chevy S10 :D.

My old 1979 GMC looked like H*** but got the job done even though it was a rust bucket.

Oh I have old too.... 78 Ford Bronco (needs exhaust) but runs like a top and my recent purchase of a 95 K2500 Chev and I really don't worry about scratches, dents, dings or working them to death...... If they were new, shined and pretty I would hesitate to work them so hard.

If they put the headlights up where they belong, it would change it's look completely.

I agree! Tha rest of the truck is fine, but those stacked lights- what were they thinking???

I currently have a 2001 Super Duty with 260,000 on the clock. The truck is a real workhorse and is still reliable. It's too bad that Ford (and all the others) feel they have to make changes to a perfectly good design. I guess the styling department needs to justify their existence.

Well, I CARE! They are a good truck, but I'll be damned if I'm going to drive something that'll frighten the kids!

Like I said, it would look a lot better if the headlights were where they were suppose to be.
It's a case of what you like, not what everyone else likes.

Re: U - G - L - Y Ford Super Duty!

Been there two evenings this week. Pretty cool stuff. I'll proabably go back tomorrow.

That is super cool. Color me jealous. I'd love to poke around there in person. Like JB, the muscle cars don't do a whole lot for me. I couldn't believe the Superbird that sold for 200K yesterday. Now on the other hand, the Duesey or esp. the 300SL WOW!! The original unrestored 63 split was nice, too.

Anyway, back to trucks, have you guys seen the axleless Deeps that the Dallas Smith Corp. makes/converts? Here's a link and here's their F450 Deep:

Don't know about them. Front wheel drive only don't sound real appealing to me.

the new ford and chevy diesels are both butt ugly. 1st the ford, fix those stupid headlights!!! you do not need them the same height as the fenders

2) chevy and their fender flairs that look like boxes were installed on the fenders and rear quarters. then you have the tires stuck inside so deep that they are practically touching each other so it looks like you are riding on 1995 donut spares. If this is the new style from your design departments I recommend you fire them and hire someone with some taste!!

as for the deep bed, nice conept but I am not giving up my rear wheel drive or my 4 wheel drive. I'd rather put on a tommy lift to put heavy items in the truck bed. I say go back to the drawing board, find front wheel drive mini trucks and do this to them as I am not paying 45,000 for a diesel dually just so I can lose my ability to tow a goose neck or haul heavy trailers.

That's a CUSTOM job, not factory.

I know, I am telling the after market guys to look at another option as they will most likely not sell many of these conversions. If they do, good for them but I have to have a multipurpose truck and for the price of that cut job, I'd just buy a trailer and haul whatever I needed in a deep trailer.

How about running two drive shafts to the rear wheels like a shaft driven motorcycle? You would have to custom make a transfer case or receiver to split the power to the sides of the truck but you could use the inside of the truck bed to run the drive shafts.

As far as new trucks go in general, I think Ford's got everyone beat in the outside appearance department. Whenever I see one that's clean, shiny, and fixed up nice I always have to look twice. I didn't like the looks of the new Chevy and GMC trucks but they're slowly growing on me. I love my Titan, but I didn't buy it for its outward appearance. I think it looks pretty nice though.

Both my truck and my dog are ugly.

I love them both just the same.

Take my dad for instance, with that 91 Chevy 2500, he said well at least if he gets mad at it he can get out and kick the heck out of. The same thing went for more 79 GMC 3/4 ton when I owned it.

I unfortunately dented my 2002 Ford Ranger when hitting it. Then just after getting my 2006 Ford F150 my father got it stuck in a ditch nose down back end up in the air, scratched and got the front bumper all out of whack, sense then he's put more scratches on it, but the worst thing is so have I :(. Just to explain one that I did, I was walking up to the truck with a hydraulic lift cylinder and ran right into the side of the truck with the end of it, leaving a nice little dent in it. Oh and I got 1 cracked rim and one dented one also on that F150.

That custom F450 with the deep bed hasn't grown on me yet.

Re: U - G - L - Y Ford Super Duty!

I like my F250 Super Duty. I have had many trucks over the years. I have had only Fords and Chevys, so I can't talk about Dodge. One of my favorite trucks was a 54 Chevy 1/2 ton SNB with 1st and reverse turned around. It had a babbit beater 216 engine. It really used to get my attention when the oil pressure would drop to near zero when I was exploring old Jeep trails. I found out that near zero oil pressure was normal in high heat in those engines. When we didn't have a pick up, it used to tickle my wife when she put hay in the back of her Mark 7. My 250 is a few years old, it is not fancy, but it looks great and does everything I need it to do. It is a V10 with over 100K on it. I expect to put another 100K on it. Maybe I'll buy one of the next generation 250s in a few years.
