U joint bellows help

Im in the process to replace my u joint bellows (1988 Aplha 1).<br />I put it onto the gimbal hsg. side first and now have a hard time getting it onto the bell housing.<br /><br />I saw that the manual suggests to put it first onto the bell then gimbal hsg. side.<br />Any chance to do it the other way (gimbal first then bell hsg side ?).<br />The bell hsg. is off, I would just hate to take the bellow off from the gimbal hsg. (fits nice, adhesive,...).<br /><br />Thanks , Tom

You don't suppose the manual suggest to put it on the bellhousing first because it's totally impossible to put it on second do you.<br />Follow the manual, you will be a lot better off.

Manuals seldom suggest things,but then again ...<br /><br />I always disagree with mine.Right now trying to do the same job w/o pulling the drive.I'll keep you posted.<br /><br />Maybe this is why so many manuals are for sale on Ebay.<br /><br />DHP

Tom, try it this way, make sure the clamp is loose and on the bellows in a position that you can tighten up the clamp and it will not rub or hit anything when being tilted. Then push the bell housing up against the bellows with one hand and stick your other hand through the bell housing and using your fingers pull the bellows onto the bell housing. Make sure it gets properly seated in the groove and then tigthen the clamp. Also make sure you follow the instructions and use bellows adhesive.

Interesting...replacing U-joint bellows without pulling the drive. I think you'll find a big fat metal shaft in the way. Do you intend to cut your bellows in half and glue it back together? Maybe you misspoke and meant exhaust bellows...THIS can be done without too much difficulty.<br /><br />Tom03, getting this job done in reverse order will be quite a challenge, but may not be impossible if you are quite the contortionist and have very small, strong hands/fingers. There's no trick to it, just patience. If in doubt, peel the other end off and do it the right way.

okay,<br /><br />I took the u jint bellow off again.<br /><br />Just to clarify:<br />1.) U joint bellow on bell hsg<br />2.) exhaust bellow on gimbal hsg<br />3.) U joint bellow on gimbal hsg<br />4.) exhaus belllow on bell hsg. ( can this be done without the $40 tool ?).<br /><br />Thanks for all the help, Tom
