This is after the fact but for those who cant pull a drive with the lift and drop method reattach the rams, cut pieces of 2 x 4 5,6,7,8 inches long and place between the top of the housing and transom. CAREFULLY use the trim/trailer button to raise the drive and force the drive off adding longer sections of wood as needed

Outboards have their own set of issues and required maintenance.

True they do. With OBs you don’t want to buy an old one because major repairs are very expensive due to very high parts cost. If you repower an inboard with a new engine if you add closed cooling it could last longer than an OB, due to the lack of internal corrosion. That’s what eventually catches up with OBs esp in salt water.

Update. I finally got the shaft out. I used a 1/4” cable and a 8lbs hammer. Took about 20 swings. Thanks for all the tips. Now time to pull the bearing out. :/

Hmmmm. The bottom of the bellows interface on the gimbal housing looks pretty corroded. I doubt you'll be able to get a good seal on that with a new bellows. You're probably looking at needing a new gimbal housing...

My friend just had his SX outdrive stolen from his boat in his front yard. New ones from Volvo are 6-8 months out due to casting issues. Hopefully you can find a used housing.

this corrosion needs to be fixed before the boat can go back into service

two choices, new housing or take the current housing to someone to grind out the bad corrosion and weld in new metal.

That’s probably why it leaked….not enough material for it to seal

In addition to salt water laying in there from a bellows leak as the original cause. I'd start looking around on ebay for a Volvo gimble housing, not sure if that can be fixed by welding but doesn't hurt to ask. I bought a lot of good fresh water OMC Cobra spare parts on ebay, including a whole Cobra transom mount including the trim rams. I do notice that Volvo parts are 2-3x as expensive as Cobra parts which is interesing because the transom mounts are very similar, since Volvo just adapted the OMC Cobra transom mount design when the Volvo SX was designed during the joint venture with OMC.
