There are many different ways to approach what you eat. To lose real weight EVERY time you put food in your mouth you need to realize what it is doing to your daily calorie intake. Some diet experts say eating several small meals a day is better than 2 or 3 large ones. Dont forget that it takes your brain a few minutes to register how full you are so if you eat until you fill full you have eaten too much..

The medical view is diets don't work, they result in greater weight gain after the weight loss.

A better approach is look at your thinking, theres 16 sugars in a soda.
The only people I've ever seen put 16 sugars in a beverage (coffee) is heroin addicts.
They like a bit of joe in their sugar.

Sodas also MAKE you thirsty, they don't quench thirst.

Look at the ingredient list, #1 high fructose corn sweetener, invented by a japanese chemist, the stuff can be damaging when drunk in high quantity.

Its high on the suspect list for causing diabetes in the children of parents who drink a lot of corn sweetener.

With all that in mind, if you're drinking a lot of that junk its time to examine your thinking.
A complete lifestyle change is what seems to work best.

I've spenty my life in the french food business, its no secret their food is very rich but the french don't get fat.
The reason is they know how to eat.

I'm 33, 6'2, 210, and fairly muscular. When I was 15, I was 6'0, 230, and fat.

For a big guy I am such a wuss about my weight, I don't ever want to be the fat kid I was, so I take my diet portion of my health somewhat seriously. (I care about it, but I am not a nut about it)

Here is my advice. You weigh 270 because you are stuck in a lifestyle. You do have to change your diet, but you also have to change your lifestyle.

Go to the grocery store every day, get fresh foods.
See what your hours at work are like. See if you can change them so you get in earlier and get out earlier. 7-3 is a good shift if you are serious about loosing weight.

No soda... get caffiene from coffee and better yet, tea. I like earl grey, hot, with a twist of lemon. And most everybody likes green tea.

Watch the beer intake, to much sugar too. ( I still have a hard time with that one!)

Fresh chicken and fish based dinners 5 times a week. Beef/meat 1 night a week, splurge and enjoy yourself the 7th night of the week.

Eat early, and eat often. I do 2 to 3 bananas most mornings with 1 or 2 bowls of cheerios. I do bagels once a week. I do bacon eggs hash fatty breakfast once a week.

Pizza, not after lunch time. Before 1 or 2 it's okay.
Dairy, cut some of it out, especially cheese.

Pack snacks. Lets face it, granola bars suck. But anything during the day is usually okay. Potato chips (lowfat). Doritos, beef jerky, left over chicken. Try to eat quite a bit during the day, but don't eat for at least 4 hours before you go to bed.

Thats it for now, it is tought to lose weight.

I find a big glass of water before a meal helps me curb my appetite. There is no magic bullet, unfortunately. Chewing slowly also gives the stomach time to tell the brain you're done! Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.

Ya white bread, snack dip, cheese, sweets, liquor, Bud lite, (and other beers) will surely put the weight on you fast.
Hard to find a happy medium because you don't want too get weak. I need some sugar for energy. But if you drink one beer then you want more beers. If you a piece of candy then you want more. I am active in the summer and that keeps some of the weight at bay but during the winter, I usually gain 20 lbs over what I should be.
Food and drink are a major player in making life enjoyable. I think I would rather be dead than eat rabbit food all the time LOL

Yesterday wasn't too bad for me. I did eat a little more than I have been the past week, but I didn't gorge myself. Maybe I'll get through this holiday season after all! lol
