Re: Ugliest Boat Contest

Here's the worst I've got. If you're in the Baton Rouge area and want it, you can have it (minus motor)

That boat's too pretty to beat the competition. Looks like Anthony and I are front-runners for the Ugly Cup!
Our boats, I mean.
Well, maybe not. I might be uglier than my boat...

Re: Ugliest Boat Contest

Bassboy1, you should be proud of your boat and the work you've put into it. It's a cool multipurpose boat; ski, fish, rip around the lake.
I am. It will get me to the fish, and have all the amenities of a modern boat. And on that boat, that is what matters. I don't exactly call it a classic, as the basic design is parallel to modern hulls. What I want as a classic is an old aluminum covered bow, or an old wooden Chris Craft.
As far as the motor, it is bolted on, the holes are sealed with 5200 sealant, and the steering and throttle will be bolted to the console. Kinda permanently mounted. I think the practical way would be to wait until we get done with the Lund, as dad would not let me buy another till we get done with this one. And he has more say in it than I do, as I am not doing this alone, moreso him doing it, and me helping.

I hated to have to pull out the big guns, but......

Behold the 60s Crestliner with over a foot of additional aluminum machine screwed to increase side height, and the always popular painted plywood transom that holds the 1st gen Mercuiser outdrive mated to a car engine/transmission combo pack.

Re: Ugliest Boat Contest

Ill be posting a pic of my ugly canary yellow sea-ray soon (its raining and snowing here at the moment (yah, in april, welcome to NH) But i have to say, we are a different breed. I think we love these boats because they are so unique. anyone can go to the dealer and by a brand new, all plastic smooth round thing, jsut like every car on the road these days. The classics have great lines, unique shapes, somebody actually thought about the design and tried to make it turn heads. I applaud everyone who takes the time and money to save these old boats. Its a crazy silly endeveur, that makes our wives and grilfriends ask why and roll there eyes at us, but we do it anyway (and if your spouse is in on it too even better, what a great relationship builder, working on classic boats/cars) When I first got my sea-ray, with a rusted out I6 and no interior noone beleived it would be anything of value, but after 4 years of work, and finally getting it out on the water, its worth more to me than any brand new boat could (even canary yellow, beat up, pitted chrome with the lousy interior.

Those are some wide slicks on the trailer, but shouldnt they get mounted the other way around? This way it seems like it would be hard to get rolling forward.

Any Bayliner from the 80's would have a good shot at winning.

Anthony's boat looks like it belongs in a sandbox somewhere with kids in pirate hats crawling all over it.

Re: Ugliest Boat Contest

I hope Anthony puts a new transom in it and paints it. It might turn out nice looking. Maybe he could cut out the window areas and fill them with big plexiglass windows and build a bulkhead to close off the cabin area.

But right now his boat is the winner of the Ugly Cup, in my book!
At least he has some good "Before" pictures...

How about not so great ideas?
This box houses the starter solenoid and starter button. No kill switch. (yet)

Original owner used outdoor receptacles for the lights

The chevy vega wheels were my idea. Gets rid of the little pizza cutters the trailer came with.
