Hey ez, was just reading an old thread you replied to and I seen your boat you put clear coat on. It looks good. Yea that's what I was leaning towards but I seen that interlux stuff. Think I'll just try the rustoleum. As you can tell no matter what we ain't planning on winning any beauty contests. Just wanna make to where it's not soo hidious. Thnx ez

Here's the deal on the boat I painted with Rustoleum.....

I painted the sides with rattle cans. Their gray primer and then a white top coat. Don't use rattle cans!!! You end up using way way more cans than you think and the $$ really adds up. Just buy the quarts and roll/brush it on. A lot of the guys here are adding Valspar hardener to the paint and are thrilled with how it works. The finish wasn't great with the rattle cans (overspray) but the paint held up fine.

Not the top side, I tried Rustoleum Metallics blue. It looked cool but refused to gloss up nice, that's why I had to clear it. The Rustoleum Clear didn't hold up that great so I wouldn't recommend using that. I'd just stick with quarts of their regular solid colors.

Very cool, I'll try that. I guess I can get the hardener at the same place? Question, I don't know if you can tell from the pics but there's a lot of, how shall we put it "imperfections". I got this marine bondo, I've sanded and getting ready to try the bondo and smooth out some of those "imperfections". After I apply it just let it set up and prime w the rustoleum primer, even if rool the primer?

Hey EZ man I was just reading over your restoreration, one word "awsome"!!!!! Couldn't believe the before and after pics. Been thinking about the wiring, the bow and aft lights work but other than that there is no other switches for gauges. Is there a way to put an rpm gauge in?

A tach should be easy to install. It needs 3 wires, positive (switched from ignition), negative, and pulse. The pulse is a gray wire in your control box. There's probably also a purple wire in there that's an ignition switched positive. The gauge will probably have an additional positive which is the backlighting. You can rig that to your navigation light switch.

Ok my friends, Last night I got a couple hours of sanding in on this old ugly thing. Looking at the old pics I can't really recognize it. It was painted white on top before and someone TRIED to paint it this beautiful vessel that she is now. HAHA! I think I'm getting close to priming it but I'm not sure if I need to get every little piece of the old blue paint in order for the new paint to stick & bond? Also wondering if and how can I hide the steering and throttle cable? I guess they have just been laying in there free. I'm gonna go back and do the roll and tip paint white top. I got blue for the bottom but I think I'm gonna try and clean and wax the bottom. Another question, I should be alright if pull the boat outside and give a good washing and scrubbing with brush rag soap and waterhose? or not so good idea? Yesterday as I was waisting my day away or as I'd like to call better educating myself at work reading about what we've learned in life ex. respect, honer, love our elders, be polite say please thank you, don't pee on elec fences. I got one 1st hand DON'T FIX A BIG CUP OF ICED UP GATORADE THEN SET IT ON THE GROUND RIGHT UNDER THE BOAT!!!!!!!! THEN PROCIDE TO SAND FOR A WHILE AND THEN DECIDE TO TAKE BIG DRINK OF F/G FULL OF GATORADE!!!!!!!! NOT GOOD!!!!!!!! Anyways thanks in advance for the help and input.

Hey we're still here and not offended in the slightest . . well, not me anyway. Glad you made the update don't think your thread is not followed. There is a lot going on with several restores starting up. I remember saying as soon as the grinding got underway it would look just like all the rest. If I recall correctly, it was only the paint job or lack there of that earned it a teasing reproach.

Ugly boat but good motor. I had a 70 hp Johnson on my Starcraft that I sold a few years ago. That was the most dependable motor I ever had. Never had to do much to it except turn the key and change the lower unit oil. My current motor I can't say as much for. My advice.....never sell that motor. I miss mine.

If it has a HIN and the first three alpha characters are either LMQ or VCM, then it was made in Douglas, GA by Lott Manufacturing Co. David Lott was partnered with Frank Franklin who owns Custom Marine in Statesboro, GA and they built Custom Craft boats for a number of years. I have put my cables in a section of PVC pipe that I ripped in half and used nylon tyraps to secure it. That provided access if I ever needed it. Good luck!

Good idea. Made me think about that plastic raceway they use for wiring. The Lowes, Menard, Home Depot stores all have it. Not sure if it would come in an appropriate size, but it was just a thought.

Here u go my friends. I got my top side primer, paint, and bottom blue paint. Gonna wait til this weekend to see if I can buff and wax out the hull before I start w the painting. Thnx willy clay for that little tip. 109jb I hope your right bout this motor but I have heard nothing but good things about them. Still need to re do the carbs haha Got the manual so should be no prob. Thnx for the advice bout the motor. Oops glad you chimed in cuz I'm not sure if it was you or Mr. Produce had replaced the carpet and took the pre cut out pieces of carpet to a upholstery shop and they wrapped the carpet and kept it from fraying on the edges. Thinking about getting a bunch of card board tape it all together to make a template on the deck to out line my carpet. Thanx again for your help and advice, GREATLY appreciated! does anyone know if that's only the one stringer down the middle right or am I missing something else? Just replacing that one piece should be suffcient then put the new deck, right? The weekend is here so hoping to not have too many problems.

I could not tell from your pictures exactly what you have but I would have expected more than one stringer. There is no standard. I had an aluminum boat that had zero stringers or ribs. The structure was foam that bonded the deck to the hull. The link below will give you a look at another Custom Craft boat needing repair except it's a deep-V hull instead of a tri-hull like yours.
