I think I found my idle problem, but I caused a bigger problem.

THere is a hose that comes out of the boat, it runs to the starboard side of the engine behind the carbs. It isnt fuel or oil, must be an air or vacuumline. It was broke at the nipple. I reattached it and wala I think I had it fixed.

I went back to re-adjust the idle by the primary pick up, got it right where I wanted it and started to tighen the nut on the screw and OH NO the screw housing broke off of the spark arm. Where do I get a new one (or used) and what price am I talking. My stomach hurts. thanks

Re: UH OH! I Broke IT!!

Great sites thanks for the links. Can someone tell me the name of the hose I fixed. Ran from the boat to the startboard side of engine. Appears to be two of them, not fuel or oil. thanks again

Are you sure it's not an old oil injection hose that is no longer needed? (disconnected oil system). What is the diameter of the hose?

I could be an oil injection hose, but it ran into a nipple attached to a rather large nut behind/below the carbs. There are two of these hoses that come out of the transom area. Could this have been causin my stalling in gear?

Are you premixing oil/gas? The hoses coming from the transom are probably an oil supply hose to the onboard oil tank and the other one is a pressure line from the block that goes to the 3 gal oil tank in the boat to pressurize the tank so oil will go to the tank under cowling on you engine.

Re: UH OH! I Broke IT!!

Tookit to the wrenc and we think we found the problem We replaced teh timing arm/lever, took off the idle stabilizer and got no spark on 1,3,5. OK so I may have had a bad switchbox that tested fine last go around, so we switched it, still no spark on 1,3,5. Replaced with new swichbox, stillno spark. Tested Stator and showed very low voltage on the fluker and 0 on the resistence test? Took off the less than 6 month CDI stator and whala, the wires were bent up enough that the flywheel had been rubbing on the wire housing and blue solid was completely rubbed through and two others were partiallly rubbed through. This explains why the boat continued to get worse as the wires broke down. Be careful on the stator hookup. My wrench has never had this happened and the way the stator was wired, there was a small upward bend as it come out of the stator. I hope this will fix my rough idle and dying every time I put it in gear by alowing proper spark. thanks again for all those who helped.
