Re: Ultimate Walleye Rod/Real?

Since your indicating trolling crank baits as well as jigging live baits I would stick to the upper level in price $100 to $150 (you'll maintain more sensitivity in a quality built rod) you'll be sacrificing some sensitivity for strength with a double duty rod. Look into what Cabelas has to offer. They send out they're catalogs pretty regularly and odering on line is easy. They have a 6 mo. no questions asked garantee. This way if you'r not totally satisfied with your choice you can return your rig and get something else... If your going below $100 go to wally world. They also have pretty good name brand rods on clearence in the fall at outrageous prices.

Re: Ultimate Walleye Rod/Real?

I have three types of rods that I use for walleyes.

1- light and flexible, Ugly Stik Lite Pro light action. mostly for light lures and worm rigs. $35
2- light, stiff, and sensitive, St Croix sc3, for jigging and trolling light lures. $85
3- medium action, stiff, and sensitive, St Croix sc2, for trolling bigger baits. $68

The thing is, I get more hook ups and landed fish with the ugly stick. I can see the stik bend and react to it, before I can feel the St Croix and react to it. I'm sure the fish feel the St Coix and drop the lure. Matbe it is just my slow reaction time.

You can get some decent freshwater reels that will handle 8-12 line for $40-60.
