When I was changing out my water impeller this past summer I noticed lots of unburnt oil gas mixture covering the interior of my lower unit area...what causes this and is it normal? 50ESL72C

Totally normal. To get a clean burn from your fuel, make sure it's fresh and mixed at 50:1. Check the cooling system ie; thermostat. The motor has to run at app. 140 degrees to have a complete combustion in the cylinders so, check the thermostat. Run the correct spark plugs and gap them at .030 (I think). Allow the motor to warm up before you give it full throttle and let it slow down slowly as well.

Thanks man! Yeah, I am always very easy on my motor...gradually increase and decrease power.
