Wow. Nice work on the gel coat.

Is the rubrail aluminum with white vinyl insert? Fresh insert would really look nice. I know the insert is inexpensive and easy to replace, but I don't recall seeing it in white. Look around, I think I paid $24 for a 50ft roll last summer. And it's a good opportunity to tighten all the screws under the vinyl that loosened up over the last 50 or so years.

Love that boat. Keep posting!

Mark42,
Yep, it's white vinyl. It's on the "to do" list, along with a gazillion other things!
Thanks for the info on refinishing the gelcoat. Otherwise I probably would have painted her red, like most other people. I've never seen a photo of another Red Fish with the factory Buckskin Tan finish, except in the old brochures. I did all of the scrubbing, rubbing, polishing, and waxing by hand. How long does it take for fingernails to grow back?

Tengals,
You're right - it's a bit harder to work on. I did all the gelcoat refinishing without power tools so I wouldn't cut right through it on the compound curves. Now I have a very rare tan factory finish.

Good call working on that gelcoat rather than painting, gelcoat is much nicer. You could do a flames paint job on it though...

I think I saw a boat similar to yours a few days ago at fiberglassics.com. it was in the "mystery boat" section I think it was called. Maybe check it out?

Man do I love those old classics.
It looks very promising.
About the rub rail insert you can go to camping world web site and order that stuff by the roll for 24 bucks I think. You have to measure the width and they do have it in white.

FLAMES!! Now that would look just plain outstanding-retro-cool! If I were single, I'd be getting a lot of dates with that one :D
I'm extremely jealous of that boat.Still want that windsheild.....

I've started prep work for painting the motor, and I'm doing some work on the trailer, too.

Found a couple more old 'glass boats, a Larson Lapline and a Star- ...something.

Re: "Under construction" photos of the runabout

Sorry about the delay. I've been pretty busy lately.
No new pics yet - I'm rewiring the whole boat right now, and hope to start on building some seats real soon.

The seat bottoms are cut out, and the wiring is finished. Next comes the carpeting and the seat upholstery.
