I have an automatic type extinguisher under the engine cover on a Mercruiser 260 but no wires are on it. Is it a good idea to have one there? and how do I hook it up? Where do any wires go? How does it actualy work?

it is simply tripped by heat.... the wires are for a switch for the dash light.... key on sends power through the switch on the extinguisher and back to the light... as long as the light is on all is good... if the extinguisher is activated the light goes off....... It will work just fine without any wires but you will have no indicator on the dash

Mine has a halon extinguisher in the engine compartment but the light on the dash comes on when it is discharged. It can't hurt.
