As I am fairly new to boating can someone out there explain the terms I/O sterndrive, inboard.I am confused.I own a 19 ft cuddy with 4.3 volvo, tilt trim on the stick.Do I have an I/O or sterndrive? Thanks for helping a newbie.
I/O and Sterndrive are the same thing and that is what you have. Straight inboards are different animals. They use basically the same engine, but the prop is typically underneath the boat and is driven by a straight shaft or a V-drive gearbox. Most dedicated ski boats like Mastercraft are inboards.
I/O and sterndrive are the same.I/O stands for inboard/outboard :: Inboard engine with an outboard drive hung on the outside of the transom.
A straight inboard has an inboard engine with
a straight shaft out the bottom of the boat and a rudder to steer. You have an I/O.If you are that green about boats you may want to take a boating course and maybe go to the library and study up
on boats boat types. Practice launching, handling
landing.
