Hello,
I have a 1989 evinrude 150 v6. The idle stop screw
kept changing position due to vibration and such, so I decided to put a jam nut on it. I unscrewed the idle stop screw and something fell out of the rear of the arm that the idle screw threads through. It went in the water and happened so fast I couldn't see it. Does anybody know what this could have been?

Re: unidentified piece fell in water-evinrude

Hi Blue.Monkey, The piece that fell off was most likely a little black plastic cap which goes over the end of the adjustment screw. It should be replaced. There was also supposed to be a jam nut on that screw already. On the side of arm that the bot screws inot. Meaning take the bolt out, put the nut on it, then put the bolt back in. Get a new plastic cap for the end of the bolt.

Thanks for the reply,
I didn't lose the plastic cap, something came out, (the aft side of the arm ),where the idle screw threads through just as the end of the screw passed through the arm while undoing it to put a stainless jam nut on it.
The screw still threads through the arm, and the jam nut helps. maybe what was in there had no purpose. I was curious if it had any importance to the timing interface of the arm??
