Ran across THIS in a design blog. After the response to Steve Jobs yacht, I thought this one was an interesting step in a completely different aesthetic direction.

The main (anchor) design is a 400' ship and then a complement of 5 designs at 295' each within the "circle." One ship, JAZZ has been detailed out by Blohm+Voss. About 52' wide, she draws 13' of water and can make 16KN (5,000 mile range).

No shots of the bridge I can find anywhere.

Trying to decide if I have "278 foot-itis." :D

Here's a much nicer yacht. Old and now retired but beautiful. It's the Royal Yacht Britannia. The Queen's yacht she used to travel the world and 'sell' the UK. Nice garage too! She was finally retired after about 50 years of service, but she was ready for a full refurb and the government decided it was too much to spend on such an old ship. She is now a museum in Scotland. Her last official duty was to take the Governor General of Hong Kong and the Prince Charles from Hong Kong when the UK handed HK back to the Chinese. Some would say the ship was from a bygone era and served no useful purpose, but when the yacht anchored on foreign trips, she was used as a mobile entertainment base for the UK. I guess in some ways her image is as valuable and as proud as the USA's Air Force One.
Many years ago I took a sightseeing boat trip round Portsmouth Harbor where she was berthed. Back in those days security was non-existent, certainly not visible. Our small boat got really close to the Yacht. The Blue of the ship shone like glass and the ships line was Gold Leaf. The ships crew who were selected from within the Royal Navy were called 'yachties' and were unique in that always wore thin rubber soloed plimsoll type footwear to keep noise down on the ship, especially when member of the Royal family were on board.

If I saw that on the open ocean I'd be terrified. It looks like an alien growth.

Looks like a lot of wasted material in order to try and make it "artistic".
