I have a 1988 Bayliner 2250 Capri with a 350 chev and along with a Cobra stern drive, in the next few months I want to replace the universal joints, gimbal bearing and bellows etc and got a price from my local marine dealer and he said around AUS$600.00 to AUS$1000.00 for parts and labor, does that sound like a fair price.

I know here in the states the transom service kit is about 125 to 150.That includes everything but the u-joints.
Not sure what they get there for labor rates but the 600 sounds reasonable.
Getting up to 1000 sounds too high...but then again how much hourly are they charging?

He estimated the gimbal bearing at $400.00 and the 2 universals at $75.00 ea he was reluctant to give a fixed price on the labor because he said some take a little more time than others.
