Hi. last year i bought a 1992 thompson 18ft with a 3.0lx motor (4 cylinder) in it and its my first boat. i also bought a wakeboard and i fell in love with it. i wanted to get a tower for it but the cost is way more then i want to spend so i found universal pylon kits that go up about 7 ft. an i have some questions

1.) are they worth the money?

2.)my boat can get me out of the water now but will a 7ft pylon add extra drag on the boat and make it harder to pull me out or possably not be able to pull me out?

3.) are they sturdy enough? will they cause any damage to my boat?

4.) from a wakeboarding stand point do they make it easier to jump the wake and do they make wakeboarding more fun

5.) also if anybody has one let me know how you like it

like i said im new to boating and any advice would be helpful

thanks

I am considering installing a pylon in my Starcraft, so I am eager to here the responses about installation. Do you have a universal one picked out?

As for having enough power, get a prop with 2" less pitch for skiing/wakeboarding (i.e. go from a 17 pitch down to a 15 pitch). It will help your holeshot tremendously.

Insanity has a new pylon coming out this year. Chrome plated, pole breaks down into two pieces, nice chrome base. Whole thing hardly weighs anything. Easy to install, easy to take down and easy to store. Doesn't get much better than this. Of course if you have done any reading, the pylon makes a huge difference wakeboarding and skiing as well.

Get the pylon! If you're a beginer on a budget like me its so worth it! It seems easier to get up because you're being pulled up and forward at the same time. Get a board with a 3 stage rocker and you can get all the air you'll need!

Here you go. http://www.universalwake.com/shop/ Seems like a good sale price. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger myself. This would buy me another season or two to get the Samson tower that I really want. My only concern is how it will work with my bimini.

Yes I do have one picked out however I forget the brand. Is on ebay and its $160. Ill look it up and let you know. It dosent have the features of the $200 plus poles but it seems like it will get the job done.

Also dose anybody know if my 18 foot, boat and 135hp mercruiser will have enough power for it? That's my biggest concern.

I've wakeboarded and had tube wars(two tubes at the same time) behind a 75 hp merc. fitted with a wakeboard pylon with ease. It is my belief if you have a wakeboard pylon you could wakeboard behind a 50hp and have a great time.
