I just bought a 79 Thunderbird 25.5' cuddy with twin 270's. Now the part that has all the locals confused. The engines are turbocharged 4 cylinder gas. No one has ever seen a turbocherger on this engine. It is not a hatchet job. The turbo installation is very clean and professionally done. Even has mercruiser markings on it. Does anyone out there know anything about this setup? I would add a pic, but don't see how.

Sounds like some "Personal Engineering" was done to those engines. I'm quite sure Volvo didn't install any Mercruiser turbos on their gas engines.

I wonder if Thunderbird did it as an option. The spark arrestor is bolted directly to the input of the turbo. The output goes through a pipe to a metal box that houses the carb. Whoever did it was good. It looks factory made. Weather is pretty ugly now so when it clears up I will get some numbers and some good photo's for anyone wanting to see them.

Include me on that list !

I am at a complete loss on that one, and I thought I had seen "almost" everything.

With a carburetor box it must be aftermarket. I would think a factory set up would use a throttle body and a hose that goes to the top of it, not a box. Still pretty cool.
