Hello,

I have a top mounted throttle for my outboard. Unknown manufacturer. It has the key/safety clib, tilt/trim button and then a small square rubber pad button. Probably 1"x1/2". It is not labeled but it is a button. It is located on top of the throttle housing next to the actual throttle. Any idea what it could be? I will try to attach a pic .

This is the best that I could do. The button is located to the right of the throttle lever. Just a flat rubber pad.

when you push that when in neutral, if disengages the shift, so you can move the handle for fast idle, when starting. your type shift is called, Binnacle.

Re: unknown button on throttle

So if I had hit that button on accident would that cause my earlier problem? I had an issue where the motor was running great in a lake for about 30 min. Then we went to idle for a few moments. When we were ready to leave, and I put the throttle down the engine would shake and not provide any momentum. I could go just above idle and get a slow speed going where the engine would not shake. Any more throttle than that and nothing happened other than shaking.

This is a double throttle setup...but the rubber button is on this. It looks just like the one on the left. Is that the buttom you are reffering too? And had I hit it again would the engine have acted normal? Thanks...first boat.

That's just the button for neutral lock out. It allows you to increase the rpm without going in gear. It will not cause the motor to lose rpm.

when you come back to the idle/neutral position it disengages automatically.
