Ok, Need a little help here. Cleaned out the bottom of the boat real well and found a two big nuts (wow just doesn't sound right). Anyways, I can't find a bolt or anything that would even use these. Any ideas

Also, I found this hole that looks like it should have a bolt in it. IT is on the front of the motor to the right of the rocker cover.. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help as always...

Re: Unknown hole and nut found..the guessing game

Can't be positive, but those nuts look like they came from front motor mounts. Perhaps PO had mounts changed and those dropped into the bilge and were left there. As to the hole without a bolt. Many engines have "extra" threaded holes in them. The blocks and heads castings are used for various engine/accessories combinations so some holes may not be used for your particular engine but might have been needed for another configuration. Easier for the block/heads manufacturer to simply pre-drill and tap any and all that might be used. If it were my boat, I wouldn't worry about it. Safe boating. Hy
