While sprucing up my motor I noticed this.

Fairly certain it wasn't like that when I put it on.
This engine probably has about 100-150 hours on it since I put it on.

Ideas?

That is unusual. That thing should last the life of the motor. It is lubricated by the oil in the gas, which comes down through the bearing.

Ive never seen it before.

It has a new seal, new O-ring, and I think I had to replace the spring too?

Perhaps the seals are working too well and gas/oil isn't making its way down?
Maybe the grease at the driveshaft splines is preventing it from being lubed?

How does it work exactly?
The lower washer has 2 bumps on the bottom, lodging it to the roll-pin on the shaft.
The spring also grabs it. So, the washer and spring probably spin with the engine.
I always assumed the spring would slip on the O-ring housing, and the rest of the stuff wouldn't spin.

But, obviously my housing is spinning on the plate, and the plate is stationary.

Should the $50 plate be replace now, or think its good enough?
What can I do to prevent this from happening in the future?

The plate is stationary and the carbon seal spins.-----The oil that lubricates the carbon seal comes from the bronze bushing in the block.---If the engine is run at 24:1 there will be enuff oil to do that.-----Have seen this type of wear before.----Probably a wee bit of dirt getting in there.
