Re: Unwanted boat hulls

I'd never just dump them but why do they have to make it so hard to do the right thing?

I'm down to 9 boats now, I spent most of today crushing up 20 of them with the track loader and running the brush hog back and forth over them. There's not much left of those now. I pushed out about a 80' trench, dragged in the boats and had at them, and back filled over top. All gone.

I think someone is taking the two smaller boats, and the rest will most likely meet the same fate. I did cut some pretty big flat sections of hull out for use elsewhere. I laid one complete bow deck that I cut out down at the side door to the shop where it gets muddy. It was textured on top and made a great welcome mat. I flipped over the on 30' boat and plan to make a shed out of it. It's more than big enough to keep the rain off a tractor or two.

I bet is probably illegal for you to start your own landfill on your property, and the EPA fines will be HUGE if you are caught. Here In Nebraska if a boat is older than a 1973 you dont need a title. Because boats were not issued titles before then. I would have crushed them, and hired a big dump truck to take it to a legal disposal site at whatever the cost.

I would have thought by now with all of this 'Go Green' attitude around that someone would have found a way to reycycle old glass hulls.
I've got a buddy that has a few old boats used as dog houses and one as a roof over his chicken pen. He buried another as a fish pond outback of his garage. I saw another guy at the landscaping place with an old glass hull gutted out and being used to haul dirt. I also gave a few to a neighbor who cut the thing up and made fiberglass shingles for his shed and dog house.
I like the idea of using the flat bow section to make a walkway or step. I was thinking of cutting a bow section out and making an awning over my garage side door.
I was also seriously thinking of taking a large glass hull, flipping it over and adding legs to make a carport for my smaller boat.
If it's your own property, then you should be able to do as you please with it, if someone wants a 100 old boats on their property, go for it. I didn't think you could own too many boats?
