Unwrapping the boat

I am going to be unwrapping the boat tommorrow and start to get her ready for the spring. I have a few questions. I have a 1995 3.0 mercruiser that has a bad fuel tank last year I hooked up a 6.5 gal O/B tanks to it to get throught the rest of the season my question is can I cont to use a O/B tank? I was thinking about getting another 6.5gal to put on the otherside of the engine to balance out the weight. The tanks are in the open air under the jump seats in the stern of the boat. I really dont want to tear up the floor if I can just do this.<br /><br />The other thing is I would like to replace my impeller this spring. I am mechanical inclined and I have done all the work my self on the boat. I have a manuel and a buddy to help. How long should this repair take and do I need anything special to do this job. and is it fairly easy to do? As far as I know it is still in good shape just want to do Preventive Maintenance. Do I need to change the bellows if I do the Impellers? Thanks for the help

The impeller is a pretty easy job to do.Remove the drive when you do it so you can grease the ujoints and check the gimbal bearing.The manual will be necessary to do this because there are a few must do's when doing this job.Like putting the shifter in full fwd when removing the drive.And after splitting the drive and replacing the impeller you must make sure the lower unit is in fwd before putting the 2 halves back together.Get the entire waterpump kit so you will be assured that all is new.There are a lot of other little things you will run into so keep the manual nearby and post up any questions you may have.While the drive is off move the belhousing up and down and do a close inspection of the bellows paying special attention to the side where the clamps are and inbetween each fold.

Portable Tanks Aren't the Greatest Idea,.....<br /><br />Lots more chances for Gas Spillage,.... <br />But,.... Ya gotta Do, what ya Gotta Do........

outboard use the tanks everyday. i see no reason why not. just remove them from the baot when fueling.
