I have a 1990 Force L drive 120 that is all working great except there are getting to be fewer places I can launch due to air/water restrictions. Boat is perfect so am looking for cheaper solution aside from new boat. Does anyone know of a 4 stroke power head that will set on this drive unit. Honest I am not smoking any funny smelling rope.
Next question does anyone make an L drive unit that would be a possible replacement that is 4 stroke. The reason for all this is there is no market here for a 2 stroker powered boat.

Think about it! It's a bayliner. They made tons of boats with mercruiser outdrives. I'll bet you could deep six the whole L drive (get rid of an acknowledged marginal set up) and retro fit a mercruiser unit. That is if you really like the boat that much to invest the money. Try to find a cheap Bayliner with the engine/drive you want. Swap the engine assembly into your boat and then sell thew other as a fixer-upper.

Frank, thank you for your input. Of course I am sure you are right. I would not benefit cost wise since storage, etc would very soon evaporate any savings and I would end up with an installation of questionable cleanliness. I guess sell it for what ever and take my lumps.

There is no other engine or powerhead that will fit in the space you have to work with.

The only way to save the boat, is to remove the entire powerplant, rebuild the transom, and hang a 4 stroke outboard on the back.
