(Update) Has Academy quit selling 25HP motors?

Just wondering........Has Academy Sports and Outdoors quit selling 25HP Mercury Outboards? I noticed that the spot where the motor display use to sit is vacant and had a red price tag on the spot. Does anybody know if they are making room for a newer motor, different brand motor, or are they going to quit selling that HP and stay with the 9.9HP?

It made me sick to see the discounted price when I passed by the outboard motors and the 25 was gone. They don't even show them on the internet, and I keep forgetting to ask a store representative what models will be coming in the future.

hello,

i looked only 3 weeks ago and no 25HP outboards in a houston store. only the 5 hp briggs in black and camo...

maybe a seasonal item.

Hmmm.......Seasonal? The store is new to our area and I really didn't take that motor being a seasonal item into consideration. I wonder if they have a newer model coming out? Or what model do they have coming out? And what the price will be?

It's to bad they don't have a discount room like sears does where they mark down there items 10% every Tuesday, but you know that motor was snatched up the day that they marked the price down. I took advantage of some other deals though , just missed out on the motor . Yes I have been keeping a watch on Iboats to.

I checked the Academy site and no 25 but 2.5,5 and 9.9 4 stroke Mercs and the 2 Briggs.They do have a 15 Alumacraft Jon that is rated for 25 hp.It would seem they would carry a 25 for it.

One of my plans was if I got a little straightened out money wise, I was going to see about getting a credit card started and charge one. Then put that bad boy on the back of my 13ft fiberglass boat that is rated for 25HP. I have also seen the same thing on there website and they don't say anything about being a seasonal item.

I can understand making room for a newer model but there has not been any hints by the website or any kind of advertisement showing what they have in store for the future. Maybe this is just a push for me to keep looking for a used Evinrude 18HP to 25HP for my boat, and as I said before on another thread those motors are like gold around here. I am seriously thinking about putting another advertisement on our local swapper under the wanted section to see what I might can find. I believe I have done that once before. I'll probably find that 25HP from Academy that somebody may of bought to resell .

hello,

many cities and towns have craig's list so try that too. i doubt a web site would mention an engine as seasonal. but, most wont have a large inventory of engines during december. but ck in april...

Well, there aren't any in the Shreveport academy store either. They sure were ugly, though, and heavy too. I couldn't figure out why is was vacant,either. Boy, they did have a good price on that red tag though.

I hear ya Lakester........I've been watching craigslist, ebay, government liquidation website, iboats, and smalloutboards dot com. The way I look at it if I was going to buy a used 25HP for 1000 + dollars I could just purchase one brand new from a place like Academy and have a 4 stroke on top of that. Man I hate that I missed that final bid on those 15HP evinrudes that they had on that Liquidation website though.

Just an update, I talked with a manager at Academy and he said "that they will not be selling 25HP motors anymore although they are planning to sell 20HP motors". He said "this was due to the fact that other stores (not our store) has been having problems selling these motors". He also mentioned that "we have been receiving these 25HP motors from other stores and selling the rest of what academy has in stock". As I'm sure there are other out of state stores sending these motors to there more popular stores as well. Our store stays packed to say the least. Of coarse I can't remember how many he said they had left to sell. I guess it also depends on the stores location on if they will be caring these larger motors or not. I know our local store carries a 15HP Mercury still.
