Re: update on 120 loop vee

Assuming you just got the rebuild done, sounds like you got a half assed job. If head gaskets are not holding (assuming they were retorqued after warmup), you're probably going to need to surface the heads and or block. Those things should have been done with the overhaul, along with carbs, impeller, etc. You might be able to get away with using a large flat file and elbow grease on the block, depending on just how bad the surface is. Have the heads machine surfaced. From there do new thermos, and it possibly might be ok. Hard to say without seeing it first.

"...a large flat file and elbow grease"? NFW!
Check the heads for flatness and install new head gaskets. Standard head gaskets will compress about .010" so anything that's out-of -flat less then that will be sealed.

c/6

Hooty

Heads can be done at most any automotive machine shop. Just a light surfacing will not noticably affect compression. Check the deck on the block as well for being true. Sometimes overheating can distort the sleeve and create a slight raised edge above the aluminum deck surface.

2Kboat, Remove heads and carefully clean both the head and block surface being careful not to gouge into sealing surface."Lightly" film the surface of block with prussion blue and perform a contact check for warpage before doing any resurfacing or final install.Place head cover on and snug down with at least four bolts "under torque value" and remove and check contact points.

2Kboat,Any major auto parts outlet should carry prussion blue.Permatex makes some.It comes in a small tube.If your local prts places don't carry it call around to any machine shop or industrial supply house and see if they can give you a lead.I'm guessing you could fill some of the pitted areas with JB weld applied sparingly with a flat edge tool filling just the pits. After cure time lightly dress with medium hone.

2K,
Go to this website, click on 'Evinrude' and then year model and engine size. Looking at the parts breakdown, you may be able to figure out which jets you need to use.

boaterssupply.com/default.asp

g'luck & c/6

Hooty
