I've been struggling with this motor for for a few weeks. After rebuilding the carbs the motor still had a miss. I replaced the trigger, stator, switchbox and the spark plugs. All three cylinders measure at 125-128 psi on compression. Wondering if this as good as it's going to get? What do you guys think?

Doesn't necessarily sound like a miss to me but I'm not familiar with that engine.

I'm going to go toss it in the water one last time before I get it ready for the winter nap. Hopefully someone can let me know if I'm headed in the right direction.

I think it sounds pretty close. Granted I had a bucket over the prop to muffle the noise a bit.

Put it in the water this morning (48 Degrees out) and it fired right up. Verified the timing and let warm up. Did a few runs across the lake and it's running great! Now I'm sad because boating season is over and it needs to go to sleep for the winter.

Check out the video.

Thanks for posting that. It gives gives me hope since that's my motor. What size boat and how fast do you think you were going?
Was that wide open?

Also, mine had a miss with a nasty looking stator before it stopped running completely. Was yours initially almost a thudding miss?

Looks great!

Boating/fishing season is not over.
The leaves are still green in your video, so at least 6 more weeks of boating.
I'm in north central Wisconsin, and look forward to fishing out of Green Bay October 22, 23, 29, 30, and possibly November 6th, as long as the wind cooperates.

The motor sounds strong, go burn some gas. :)

It's a 1986 Starcraft Bass 170. 17.5'. It's a heavy aluminum boat due to the flooring. I was clocking about 38mph on GPS.

My stator had a burn spot on the inside of it and when it and the wires were cracked with heavy green corroded crap. I replaced due to the nasty green corrosion and when I was testing I noticed that the voltage was out of spec.

From what I could tell, the trigger was the biggest problem as it seemed to be firing on two plugs at a time and when it got warmed up the advance would get all weird and wold not gain RPM then choking it's self out.

Wow, that's good speed out of a 60hp! I think my trigger will end up beig shot too. If I can do the stator right then I'll probably get a new trigger and rectifier.

Looks like a fun setup you have there. For another 40lbs, $3,000+, and 2 gph more you could upgrade motors and get another 5mph ;-)

I agree with Roscoe, get that puppy out a couple more times!!! :)
