Re: (Update:SOLVED!) NO OIL PRESSURE! (4.3 Mercruiser) Help!

OK Guys...the verdict....faulty oil filter! they said they let her run for another 30 seconds or so and duplicated the malfunction, spun on a new filter and fixed the problem. Of all the things that could have gone wrong!

Now here's the dilema...how much damage could have been done that I cannot see or hear? Like I said, I ran the engine for maybe a minute total, and the dealer says he ran for about 30 seconds. He claims she runs good as new now (will be taking her out tomorrow to be sure), with no odd noises, etc. I am just afraid this issue has taken some life out of my new motor, and that I may not see the effects of this until after the warranty period is over (which is just my luck). Am I over thinking this? Mechanic says merc will probably not reimburse if they say my issue was with a filter (?) so not sure how they are going to word it on their claim. I told him whatever, as long as it says I had ZERO oil pressure (actual) and it wasnt an indication problem (sender, gauge, etc) if something happens in the future I would assume I would have a better chance of being covered..sid they wold call me in a couple weeks when they get the paperwork done to merc so I have some proof..

again, I cant thank you guys enough for your time and help!

Get it on paper from your certified technician. Then if if gives any issue at all bring it in each time and get it on paper. I think you stated that you used a Mercruiser filter, perfect! The filter is the culprit, the filter needs to be saved and the filter manufacturer needs to be held accountable.
If the motor starts to do anything wrong you had better be ready to whine all the way to the customer service people at the manufacturer level. Your engine should last indefinitely. All you did was the right thing!
