I just ordered a complete Mercruiser Alpha I remanuf. from Marineparts.com with 15 month warranty (plus they had a special on shipping both directions)- for $1450 total cost. I am replacing my 1987 original Alpha I just because I thought it was time and want to head off any offshore issues. I am totally updating/rehab'g everything aft of the transom now also. Does anyone have experience with this outfit? and should I check anything specifically before sending my original outdrive back to them (beside any obvious differences in drives) ? Thanks for all valuable information on this site.

Re: updating Alpha drive

If your'e going that far, you should definately give strong consideration to replacing the bellows, shift cable, water hose, and trim sender/limiter switches. Those are the items I would have far more concern for than a working drive.

You might consider selling your drive. You could probably get double or triple what they offer for Core. :)
