Hey guys, I have a 73 fisherman 6hp motor... She runs like a top, but just a little slow for my liking. I'm pushing a 14' fiberglass utility boat with it.
Anyway, I heard that the carb was the only difference between the 6hp and the 9.9hp. Is there any truth to this? Could I just replace my carb to get that much extra power out of it? I rerally cant swing a new motor at the moment, I'd like to pep this one up, if its possible.

Whoever told you that doesn't know what he is talking about. The only relationship between a 6 and a 9.9 is they both stick down into the water.

Come on F-R, be fair. The drain plugs in the lower unit share the same part number!

All kidding aside, the 6hp cannot be made into anything but a 6hp. It started its design lineage as a 5.5, so it has already picked up a half pony along the way. With its aluminum rods, there really isn't much you can do to make it more powerful as those rods tend to ventilate crankcases when revved beyond recommended tolerances...

yea, I kinda figured... Thanks anyway, I thought I'd ask before ruining a perfectly good motor.
