Hello guys,

I have a '94 Bayliner Capri 1954, 3.0L Mercruiser that Im doin some work on. This work includes replacing the deck, changing out the seats, redoing my livewell, and a few other odds and ends. I've only just started the tear down, and I have run into an issue that I'm just stuck on.

Im trying to remove the cushions that run along the sides, but it seems as if i have to tear them up to get them off. Some of the panels have access to the screw, but some of them do not. On these, the head of the screw is inside the cushion, and i dont see how to get to it without cutting the vinyl.

Am i missing something here?

In the first pic below, the rectangle shows where i do have access to the screw.

In this pic, ive identified where the screws are, but as you can see, there is no access to them.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Upholstery Question

Join the Bayliners owners club BOC.com lots of info there.........those bolts should be carrage bolts and just have nuts on the backside, problem is they probably not stainless and will be well rusted, 2 the wood will probably be wet and or rotten so the head will just spin so you will have to cut the bolts off.

Re: Upholstery Question

Thanks for the response. I will check out the Bayliners club.

On some of the other panels, there are carriage bolts. But on the rear panels shown in the 2nd pic, when i stick my hand up behind there, i can feel just the very tip of a screw sticking through the wood, at least thats what i though it was without actually looking. The wood isnt rotted, but ive considered just yanking the sucker off anyway. Haven't quite convinced myself i should do that though.

Re: Upholstery Question

I ended up ripping or sawing all of mine off and rebuilding them with 3/8" marine plywood, with mildew resistant batting, then wrapped with Sunbrella fabric, and stapled with stainless staples. Ooops dont forget to put the STAINLESS carriage bolts in before wrapping.
