Upper Crankshaft Bearing 1976 Johnson 115etl

In the process of doing a rebuild on this motor. I had shattered piston rings and have been going throught the motor quite thoroughly. I had to bore out at 0.020 over to clean up the bores. I am installing Wiseco forged pistons and rings. Everything was fine till I found the upper crankcase bearing had a hairline crack in the ourter race during re-assembly.

I am already topping out on the budget and the best deal I can find is an entire assembly for $311.00. The bearing itself is a Torrington au 47495.

I am skittish about using a used bearing but I am having a hard time with this much money on the bearing assembly.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Any ideas where I can get a bearing alone? The Timkin people who purchased Torrington say it is not available as it was an OE part.

I have a couple of friends who have some Evinrude 85's from about that same year range that they said I could have the part off of. Would these work? I understand there is a lot of crossover on the 85's and 115's.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Precision Mfg & Sales in Clearwater would have that bearing by itself.

Hey Chinewalker,
That is mighty generous of you. How much do you think we are talking about? I live in Aragon, GA 30104. About 45 minutes N.W. of Atlanta.

Thanks,
