Upper Drive Housing Won't GO Last 1/8"

Re installing Gen 2 drive and have a 1/16 to 1/8 gap between the upper housing assy and bell housing assy. Just wont go the last fraction. Thinking that it's the large rubber "O" ring keeping it out?? Correct ?? Thanks...

Yes, it squeezes that ring to seal.
