Hey guys,
I have a '91 3.0L motor with a mercruiser Alpha One Generation II (I believe) outdrive. I did the worst idiotic rookie mistake and didn't check all the fluid levels before I took her out on a run.
Fried the upper bearings to where they got thrown into the gears and basically seized everything. Any Ideas of what else I could have damaged? From what it looks like I have to replace the upper bearings, gears (19-17 tooth, #'s on gears 3765/75325-1, 3755/75324) seals, gaskets, etc. When I looked on the web found some gears from quicksilver that have different ratios closer to if not 1:1. The tach has been reading that it revs high (Previous owner). Could I simply replace those gears with the closer ratio gears and not have to worry about anything else? I would appreciate any help since I know JACK about boats.
