Upper gearcase ball gear

I am in the process of rebuilding/ putting back together a stringer 800 stern drive. I purchased a new omc 908069 ball gear for the upper gear case. Are there shims that I need to get before installing the new gear or can I just replace it via removing cover and nut? Any help would be great. Thank you

you need a whole ball-gear kit which comes with seals, nuts, expansion plugs, etc. its about $150

as for any shims you need to set up the gear box, those are separate.

IN addition to what Scott said you will probably find 1 or 2 various colored plastic shims under the bearing retainer of the upper gear housing. Try to re use them, they are delicate and tear easy.
