Took boat for run and 1 min after leaving dock engins dropped rpm and locked. removed outdrive and shaft was locked in upper housing -engine spins no problem. I removed upper cap and got outdrive shafts turning. In fact as soon as I took cap off everything started to turn. I removed retainer ring to pull u-joint and lower gear back to remove upper shaft and found retainer ring to be easy to take off just a bit snug; upper shaft; small tapered bearing; seemed loose and floppy. Inner race is tite but bearings and bearing holder moves aroud a bit. I took the shaft in and the shop said it was ok They said once it is under load all is ok. All gears look great so I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up here. Top cap was torqued to 20 lbs what could be locking it up?
