I am rebuilding this motor and I have a service manual. I'm trying to remove the upper moror mount - the one thats attached to the crankcase.

I removed the bolt and the manuals picture shows a screwdriver prying the mount retainer aginst the lower exhaust plate area. When I try this my exhaust plate starts to bow. If I pry harder it will break - I'm sure.

Is there a safer way to remove the mount retainer? My mounts are pretty rusty and probably should be replaced.

Thank you!
Richard

Bump -- What no takers? Am I using the wrong terminology or am I the only one with this problem?

I attached pictures for clarity

Please help!

DH

The retainer is the part I'm having a hard time with. It's solid as can be. I removed the bolt and my manyal says to "pry out the retainer". My problem is I fear I'm prying too hard and somthingis gonna give. With my luck it wont be the retainer:(

Ive tapped the retainer with a hammer and pryed harder than I should have. The retainer feels solid. Like it's part of the crankcase.

What should I do?

Thanks Richard

PS DH - I'm planning on taking my block to Flagship Marine Engine in Punta Gorda for boaring etc.. Any experience with them?

Any experience with them? Some. I ran the remanufacturing division for 20 years. Leave the mounts in, I'm pretty sure they still have some tools made up to help get them out.

What pistons are you going to use?

I suggest you leave it alone and let machine shop remove it. It will not be in the way for boring. It is likely frozen due to brackish water use and will need some heat applyed to remove it.

I assume thats a glowing recommendation???? I'll leave the upper mount in - I'm planning on using OEM pistons on Flagships reccommendations. I've been told to give them the block and let them tell me whats needed.

I assumed I'd .030 all six. But apparently you can mix and match?

I would really appriciate any experienced suggestions. I really dont want to do this twice and I'd like the security of knowing the engines practically new.

Also Looking up the part 0436853 on the BRP site description "RUBBER MOUNT ASSY., Upper" Does this include both sides? - Mine looks like two of the one pictured and their $98.00!

Many many many thanks!

They do excellent work and have fantastic equipment. You can mix & match OE and Wiseco pistons. If you use OE you'll have to go to .030, Wiseco has .020s. Jeff is a good friend but he doesn't like Wiseco pistons, just his opinion and that's OK. They can supply either.
