It would matter if there were a different number of splines on the coupler between Ford and GM. I do not know if that is the case, but I do know if you started a new thread on your question, you stand a better chance of getting it answered.
If there is a difference, and your u-joints are good, you could (in theory) graft the original shaft to your replacement upper.

Did the same thing this weekend. Found a replacement drive. 21:18 ratio. My question is whether it matters whether the replacement drive goes into a Ford or GM. The replacement drive is a Ford. Engine is a GM. Anyone know whether that matters?
