Hi, I've got to go 20 miles up the coast to middle of nowhere tomorrow am to try to recover a 1970ish 65hp merc that broke down on my neighbour while we were out in our boats (blue trim 650 kiekhaefer model with thunderbolt ign). I'd be grateful for any suggestions. It seems to be running on only 2 cyls, and hard starting. Problem arose idling away from dock after resting for 20 minutes after a 75 minute run on 89 octane fuel (he usually tries to run premium on recommendation of previous owner). It quit then Took ten minutes to get going again and it will only fast troll not plane. bulb is hard, squeezing does nothing and it is peeing (though not very hard)We're going to take new plugs another fuel line and fresh premium gas up. I'm thinking of draining the carb bowls (assume drain is brass screw under butterflies at front). I couldn't see where to remove the fuel filter but i'd like to do that if anyone can tell me how. One thing I noticed was that the plug lead insulater wrappings were melted but owner thinks this is old news.

Any other suggestions? if we can't get it going it's a fast troll for 20 miles if the motor lasts
!!
