Man I couldn't dream up a better headline than that, of course had to nip it a bit to get your attention.8)

Read all about it here.

<<The US government wants the world's scientists to develop technology to block sunlight as a last-ditch way to halt global warming, the Guardian has learned.>>

Re: US answer to global warming: smoke and mirrors.

Sounds like a great idea, just in case.
What if we brought our co2 emissions to zero, and even managed to find alternative fuels and put them into use everywhere on the earth, and the earth still continued to get warmer? Not like that is ever going to happen, but what if? Wouldn't an alternative plan be good?

But won't we all be living in bio domes by the time they get this figured out?

And you know they will Pointer.

The Garguans need to keep us (and earth) viable, so we can continue harvesting plartob pellets to feed their masses.

Tabloid journalism at it's worst.

In other words, a load of. . . um, err, a crock.

Truth or fiction? Doesn't matter.

This is no longer a scientific debate, it is a political agenda.

Both, ignorant statements to say the least.

Yep, just keep your heads burried and everything will be wonderful.

Peanut brained dinosaurs survived for 350 million years. Even at that, they did not destroy themselves. Man(H. sapiens) will be lucky to survive a quarter of a million years. Furthermore, our demise will be at our own hands.

CJY: This is clearly a political agenda, and it is also clearly one sided agenda driven journalism. So the statements you label as ignorant are spot on. As stated before: the earth's orbit, tilt at the poles, and the fluctuation in the sun dwarf all other considerations, outside of an orbital collision or massive volcanic event. Are you willing to give up boating, (other then sail boating), ride your bike or walk, while the Chinese and India do what they want? JR

Re: US answer to global warming: smoke and mirrors.

There isn't a liberal here that would give up their car, truck, or central air regardless how they like to paint the picture. Like all liberal causes, the reality is this is a problem for "big" something or other. Usually oil, but it really has to do with whichever industry taking the hit will get the most mileage for the left. Oil, Auto, how about an old favorite, the industrial military complex.

It is really funny to see exactly what the left has done under such dire predictions. Kennedy still flying in private jets, Kerry still owns a ski mountain, Clinton still eating lots of red meat. No really, what have they done? Obviously we should be able to assign a temperature saving to each and every one of these "initiatives". Just remember, it isn't what you can do, its what they can get.

We CAN'T win a war against a third world country of tribal nomads, but we are more than capable of working with the WORLD, to change the temperature of the GLOBE. Anyone see a problem here?

Yeah, I see two: 1) The temperature of the sun and 2) The fact that the outer core of the earth is MOLTEN...

You know, it makes me wonder, back when the glacier's retreated and created, I don't know...how about the finger lakes in NY for an easy example. Who was causing it to warm up then? CJY calls JB's statements ignorant but at the same time represents the idealist mentality that buys into this crap over and over and over and over and over again. Geez...when do you guys call a duck a duck...

Re: US answer to global warming: smoke and mirrors.

well, if we run out of oil it will go away.
I just recently purchased a 20ft shamrock with a 220Hp 351,recently repowered my 18fish and ski from an old gas guzzling 115 crossflow to a 175 E-TEC and bought a 4wd ranger with a 4.0. I figgue if I use all of them at least once per week I can aid in the depleting of the oil and save us from the continued emissions.
see I am doing my part :):).
can man pollute the air, water and soil so as to make it less productive to downright hazardous? ooooo heck yea.
but to think we can make much of a difference on global temps is stretching it just a bit.

take Lake Guri in Venezuela, this place is located just before you fall off the earth.
however the fish are rapidly becoming health hazards due to the mecury in the fat due to the unregulated gold mining.
a small amount of folks are going to create a lake full of unedible fish.
take lake Micigan, thats a fair sized pond. when I was catching salmon and trout in the 80's I think the USDA and local health folks had signs posted about consuming fish. something like NONE if your pregnant or may become pregnant, NONE if you were under 12 and the rest no more than onw 1 pound serving per month.
I dont sweat global warming,we will kill ourselves off with polution long before we fry.

on the bright side, some of the locals around waukegan IL said the lake was actually a lot cleaner. they said in the 70's if you caught a fish period it was reccomended not to eat them at all.
however the local oil, steel and manufacturing companies all cried foul when some of the polution laws were enacted.
I think the day the Erie canal actually caught on fire was a turning point.

By CJY;
Both, ignorant statements to say the least.

Except that it is mostly a political agenda.
and
Most of todays journalism is tabloid trash.

Hence your ignorant statement concerning ignorance.

By rodbolt;
I dont sweat global warming,we will kill ourselves off with polution long before we fry.

Just last week one of the UN's own scientists on global warming said "Global warming is a more serious issue than a nuclear war."

I think the lack of credibility on all sides is the greatest problem of all.

Re: US answer to global warming: smoke and mirrors.

Sorry, this post was put in the wrong thread.

Nah, I'll say something since I have a post already here. I don't believe the dems love the Earth more than the repubs. Why? I can't seem to pick out who is a dem or repub based on the vehicles they drive.

Al gore bitching about global warming. Well, what does he travel around in? What kind of private jet?

Re: US answer to global warming: smoke and mirrors.

I aint got a private jet, actually I am terrified of flying. I do it a lot but mostly about half hammered.
thats part of why I am up so late tonight, got back from VE on the 16th. 6 out of 8 of my cats missing, my mom called about 9PM and told me a long time family friend and one of my best friends mom had passed away. morning of the 17th found my favorite cat dead. one came back on the 20th so skinny I did not recognize her at first. then sunday my best friends sister called to tell me my best friend died sometime staurday night.
so now I am waiting for the details and I will fly to Tx for yet another funeral.
but your mostly right. the only difference between a rehub and a dumbocrat is who they rip off for the cash.
kinda like the difference between a babtist and a methodist.

Re: US answer to global warming: smoke and mirrors.

JB,

My comment referred to your position on global warming, numbskull. Not only your comment here.

A challenge to any one of you believing man has nothing to do with global warming. Show me a single scientific source that credits nature entirely, with global warming. There must be something out there you guys are banking on. You know, that one source that discredits the thousands of scientist that say we are in part responsible. When/if you find one, make sure it is not 20 years old.

Come on bjcsc, find one and I will call a "duck a duck". You say I am buying into this "crap, over and over and over." Well, what are you buying into, whom do you believe? Ther must be someone Or, are you just fefuting the evidence simply because it is the side of the fence in which you stand?

Let us say, for argument sake, it is entirely nature. What makes any of you so sure man will be able to survive it? Arrogant, to say the least. Keeping your heads in the sand will surely eliminate the problem.

The funny thing about technology, in order for technology to grow, one must believe their is a need for it. I am thankful we have scientists willing to move technology forward, rather than scientists with their heads in the sand.

Anyone have a dog that hides his eyes when he is in trouble with the belief that you can no longer see him?

OMR, I don't have a global answer. Problem is, we cannot begin to address this issue as a world, if we don't even agree this is a problem. So, the present issue is not fixing GW, it is getting people to understand it is a problem and will only worsen as we keep our heads in the sand waiting for people to stop talking about it.

Re: US answer to global warming: smoke and mirrors.

My comment was directed at OldMercs. He called my original comment ignorant.

I do not know what is causing climate change, or even if it is going to continue.

All that I see and read on the subject is too loaded with political agendae to be credible. The article in question is a bunch of speculation and fabrication. As I said, tabloid journalism.
