Re: USAA insurance?

I am lucky because I got my boat insurance through USAA while they were still writing it. Have never had to deal with any other company.

Motorcycle are farmed out to Progressive.

I would doubt if large RV's are also.

Progressive rate thru USAA referral is still less than I used to have when I had Progressive years ago.

they will only pay an 'Actual Cash Value' which is no where near what you will find the same vehicle for sale, anywhere. Far less than Kelley Blue Book, NADA, or any other appraisal you may have.

And that would differ from most every company how? USAA (as well as most) will insure for 'agreed value', but it will cost you proportionally more and must be established up front ...

A co-worker talked to USAA last week about swiching to them for her homeowners policy. They told her she couldn't because she has 4 chickens. That makes her home a working farm.

Not sure where CharlieB heard that. My parent's truck(USAA insured)was stolen and the value they came up with was very fair. It ended up being around Kelly Blue Book retail plus sales tax plus registration.

 Well, there's information missing here. It is true USAA will not insure a working farm under standard home owner insurance, working being defined as a business enterprise. Your friend can have all the chickens the law allows as long as she doesn't sell them or their eggs, that is what would make her home a 'working' farm and ineligible for standard home owners. And insurance for a 'working' farm is serviced by USAA, but outsourced for underwriting as boat insurance is currently ...

I own an insurance agency and wote my boat though Foremost Insurance. They allowed me to select either an Actual Cash Value or an Agreed Value policy. With just a basic runabout, I chose an ACV policy. :)

Re: USAA insurance?

I've got USAA Homeowner, Universal life, and term life ins. policies. The auto rates were ridiculous and so were the boat ins. rates. I've had the homeowner policy for three years now. No claims. Initial premium was $1235 annually. It's now almost $1500. Again, no claims. I've done extensive reading of reviews regarding claims on the USAA Website. A vast majority of the reviews are horrible. I've got my auto insurance with State Farm. I can get higher homeowner coverage with State Farm for almost $200 less, and then also save almost $300 on my two auto policies due to multi-policy discounts.

I have had some bad experiences with State Farm Homeowner insurance after weather related damage to my home; yet not as bad as many reviews I read about USAA on their own website. I'm still "on the fence" myself; so I don't know whether or not I've helped much. I strongly suggest reading the reviews. There are many.

In so far as the profit sharing annual dividend checks... I've heard about them. I've been with them for three years now... Haven't seen any.

I was an accident investigator on Ft. Riley before I retired in 06, and USAA was the only insurance company that called my office and they were a pain.
Now that I deal with soldiers mail, don't lose your debit or credit card and expect them to be in a hurry to get a replacement to you. Just had a CW get his today, they said they mailed it on Monday; postage was placed on it on Wednesday in the PM. Needless to say CW was not happy with them. He is not the only one that has had this problem.

That's because you must have selected getting the credit instead of the check. Of course you only get this with the auto policy and not the homeowners or life insurance. You realize that right?

Just got my new notice of auto renewal for the next 6 months. Went up $4.

I would ditch the Universal and only get term life insurance.

I'm 45 years old. My term life policy is 20 years. I'm hoping to outlive it.:) The Universal life policy earns interest and can be cashed out any time. 20 years from now it probably won't be worth as much as my money market funds or stock gains; but if Lord forbid my time comes tomorrow... Risk to benefit ratio. If there's something more you feel I should know, please start a new thread.

Thanx!!!

Re: USAA insurance?

and I have never talked to anyone with experience with usaa when making a claim.

I've had their insurance for 40 years (CC for about 30), including a dozen or so homeowners, auto claims, and CC charge-backs. Each was handled quickly and efficiently every time, including a couple of amended claims after initial settlement. The key to any claim is that they be notified as soon as possible, not well after the fact, if you expect them to be immediately responsive to your perceived needs. AND THAT YOU HAVE ACTUALLY READ YOUR POLICY BEFORE YOU TAKE ISSUE WITH 'EM. Like any company, it's a good bet they actually know what it says, as opposed to what you think it says ... ;)

I think you have to have a minumum level in the 'subscribers account' before seeing any rebate, which takes some years. Because the 'minimum is reached with subscriber payments, if vested you get the entire account when terminating membership. My subscriber apyment + 'senior' provision was over $800 this year, I apply these to vehicle premiums (3 vehicles), which means I only make a single partial p[remium payment out of pocket.

I've found both homeowners and vehicle insurance at slightly less expensive rates, but even that went away when I took upped liability to a million for both types. Make sure you're comparing apples to apples, few are exactly the same as others
