Anyone here used cypress in their boat building? I am considering using it in a few spots in my rebuild. One would be for a nailer to secure the deck to rather than my stringers. Another space would be to mount seats to. Finally, for interior seat box construction and for some wall areas to be covered with teak. I saw it at a mill. It's light, cost is reasonable and seems easy to work with (router/dado/etc. ) My concern would be sealing it since i know it has its own natural oil production, which inherently gives it some rot resistance. Let me know your thoughts.

Are you sure it was cypress, not cedar?

It was cypress. They have a warehouse of all kinds of exotic hardwoods and some softwoods. They had both kinds of mahogany as well, but the less expensive type was still twice the price of cypress. White oak looked good for these applications too, but was trying to save a little weight.

Nice and light, resistant to rot.
Soft, not all that structural. More likely to be used as hull planking
over a hardwood frame.
